What is a Residential Care Home?

A Residential Care Home offers a secure environment that Clients` can call home. Residential Homes offers the opportunity for Clients who do not have Nursing needs to live as normal a life as possible with assistance from Carers and Activity Organisers with personal care and social engagement. This assistance covers everyday needs with personal care, dressing, washing, bathing/showering, toilet assistance and medication administration all the way down to laundering of clothes and bedding, heating and electricity along with all meals and drinks. A Residential Care Home is designed to allow Clients to enjoy a high quality of life.

Are you part of a large chain of providers?

No. Tusker House is an independently owned, run and has been in the same family in Hastings, East Sussex for over 50 years. We pride ourselves on delivering highly person centered care and are in the enviable position to be highly responsive and capable of making policy decisions which could improve our service without delay. We believe a well lead Care Home is a great Care Home and have the backup of a highly effective and experienced management team that ensures good care is cascaded throughout our staff.

Does my stay have to be permanent?

We offer Full time placements, Respite Care and Day Care. Sometimes Day Care or Respite Care is a good opportunity to `test the water` to help decide whether we would be the correct care setting for you without long term commitment. Even `permanent` placements are on a four-week trial period.

Will I have my own Room?

All Clients can have a permanent room for peace and privacy. We encourage Clients and their Families to personalise rooms in order to create a truly familiar environment. This may be by way of personal furniture and reminiscing mementos. All room maintenance and cleaning is carried out by our in-house domestic team. All rooms have `Nurse Call` bells for assistance should a Client require it.

How do I fund my Care Costs?

We accept both Self-Funded Clients and Local Authority funded Clients. Generally, our Clients pay by monthly standing order. We are happy to guide you with any financial questions. Care costs are usually reviewed annually; interim reviews are rare and only where significant additional care is required.

Is there a Menu choice?

Yes, choices are available daily and for all meals. Clients` individual like and dislikes are `Care Planned` and reviewed on a regular basis. Clients can choose to dine in either of our dining areas and either of our lounge areas. Some Clients may choose to dine in their room. All meals are prepared on-site.

Do you Cater for Special Diets?

Yes, we cater for a number of individual requirements based upon Clients` preference or medical needs. We endeavour to be as flexible as possible with diets and are mindful to encourage our Clients to have a good balanced dietary intake.

Do you cater for Couples?

Yes, we have a number of Double Rooms for couples, some have En-Suite wet room and WC facilities.

Can I visit the Hairdressers?

We have a Hairdressing room and our Hairdresser visits once a week.

Are there Laundry facilities?

We have a modern commercial laundry with facilities to deal with all clothing and bedding requirements. We use state of the art `OTEX` ozone generation cleansing washes for optimum cleansing and infection control. (All clothing must be clearly identifiable).

What type of Client groups do you look after?

Tusker House caters for older people (over 65) who have a Dementia type condition. We accept Local Authority funded clients.

Do the Clients have access to outside space?

We have a relaxing landscaped front Garden with seating in a lawned area. We also have a secure garden. This is available for all Clients to use in most weather conditions. It has been constructed with level artificial grass with outdoor garden furniture. There is a secure full height glass balustrade affording views over Hastings town with the English Channel and Eastbourne beyond from our elevated position on the outskirts of the town.

What time are your visiting Hours?

There are no strict visiting hours so Family and Friends can visit at most times. We encourage involvement from Family and Friends to maintain as normal relationship as possible and allow our Clients to maintain links with the local community.

How are you regulated?

We are regulated by the CQC (Care Quality Commission). Our most recent inspection found us to be Fully Compliant with an overall Good rating.
